Davidson Elementary School students competing in the Lions Club International Peace Poster contest were recognized Monday by the Water Valley Lions Club. The winners are (front row, from left) Alicia Nichols (first place), Aaliyah Scott (second place) Selena Boedecker (third place); and (back row) Namiya Morgan, Braxton Ferguson and Carolyn Floyd received honorable mentions. Pictured with the students are Lions Club past president Rick Neeley (left) and treasurer Bill Norris (right), along with DES Principal James Watson and teacher Lecia Bain.
Norris presented the top three winners with a monetary award from the Lions Club, and the first place poster will advance to the state level. Norris reported two entries by Water Valley students have won state competition in prior years.
The peace poster contest is an international contest that encourages students, ages 11 to 13, to creatively express what peace means to them. The theme for this year’s competition is “Lead with Compassion.”
