Nethanel Dunn has been named STAR Student for the 2023-2024 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) M. B. Swayze Foundation, sponsor of the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program. Established by the Mississippi Economic Council in 1965, the purpose of the STAR program is to recognize outstanding students and teachers in Mississippi through its Education Celebration. The theme this year is: The Pursuit of Excellence. He chose Vaughn Daniels as his STAR teacher. They attended the ceremony today in Jackson.
Nethanel says, " Coach Daniels has been an exemplary teacher to me and my fellow classmates. Even when students were looking into the eyes of failure, Coach Daniels continued to work with them. He continued this effort even past school hours to help students achieve a passing grade and score well on their benchmarks/state tests. Something I believe no student will ever forget of Coach Daniels is his classroom. There was no day left unfilled with learning, activities, or political debate. I am truly grateful to have had him as a teacher!"
When Coach Daniels was asked to describe Nethanel, he stated, " Nethanel is an amazing student. If you mess up going over something in class he’s going to correct you and he never accepts anything less than perfect in any endeavor he does even if it means arguing for it. It has been a privilege to have him in class."
Congratulations to Nethanel and Coach Daniels!
